#21. Jennifer Beals as Bette on The L Word
Playing a tightly wound art gallery director, Beals stole the entire second season of this guilty-pleasure, pulpy drama about a gorgeous, bed-hopping group of Los Angeles lesbians. Dumped by her pregnant girlfriend after she was caught cheating, Beals let perfectionist Bette fall apart with magnificent messiness.

NEW CHARACTER MOIRA
PLAYED BY DANIELA SEA

NEWS FROM LANSING STATE JOURNAL
Newcomer Daniela Sea - punk musician, performance artist and former juggler with a Polish traveling circus - will add TV star to her list when Showtime's lesbian-themed drama launches its third season January 8, 2006
On L Word, Daniela Sea plays Moira, a mucho-macho computer techie from the Midwest and new girlfriend to Mia Kirshner's Jenny. Over the season's 12 episodes, Moira gradually morphs into Max.
Androgyny is nothing new to Daniela Sea, 29. As a punk rocker, she and her band cross-dressed. At one point in her world travels, she lived in India for eight months as a man.
Daniela Sea and Leisha Hailey (Alice) are the only out lesbians in the ensemble cast.

RETURNS WITH A PASSION

By John Crook - Saturday, January 07, 2006
NEWS IN ENGLISH
Passion, politics and poignancy -- P words, all of 'em -- are in plentiful supply as Showtime's The L Word returns for its B>third season starting Sunday, January 8 - 2006 in the US.
Set in and around the lesbian community of Los Angeles, the controversial series picks up pretty much where season two left off, with on-again, off-again lovers and new parents Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals) and Tina Kennard (Laurel Holloman) already hitting stormy waters as they try to heal their fractured relationship.
Elsewhere, Bette's sister, Kit Porter (Pam Grier), finds new love in a very unexpected place, while sexy hairdresser Shane McCutcheon (Katherine Moennig) tries to abandon her old love-'em- and-leave-'em attitude for the sake of new girlfriend Carmen (Sarah Shahi), a feisty club disc jockey.
In the course of this 3rd season, Jenny Schecter (Mia Kirshner) embarks on a relationship with Moira (new regular Daniela Sea), a strikingly attractive, somewhat butch newcomer with what may be some complicated gender identity issues.

THE L-WORD  @  THE STORY OF THE GAY TV SERIES
article by Barry Garron (Jan. 15, 2004) - The Hollywood Reporter
The L Word - TV Series * L is for lesbian
#1. - On the cover of its press kit, Showtime lists a few dozen words that begin with "L," such as "love," "lust," "libido" and "lovely," all of which are associated with its newest series about a group of friends and their relationships. The only relevant omission, most assuredly intentional because it goes without saying, is "lesbian," a reference to the sexual orientation of most of the characters.
#2. - Having had reasonable success with "Queer as Folk," its venture into the world of gay men's drama, Showtime and exec producer-writer Ilene Chaiken now visit the lives of gay women, and, in at least one case, a woman whose sexual orientation is unclear even to herself. The result is a dramatic series that is steamy, provocative and filled with smart dialogue and richly drawn characters, none of whom are entirely predictable.
#3. - Start with Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals) and life partner Tina Kennard (Laurel Holloman) who, after seven years, have decided to start a family. Bette, being the Type-A career-driven one, continues to work at her job as art museum director, while Tina, the mellow and nurturing one, gets ready to be impregnated. But by whom? That's one dilemma that occupies a major part of the premiere.
#4. - The other big story involves Tim (Eric Mabius), their next-door neighbor, a college swimming coach and the eager boyfriend of Jenny (Mia Kirshner), an aspiring writer fresh from college. Jenny thinks her writing and Tim will make her world complete until she meets and gets the hots for Marina (Karina Lombard), the owner of the cafe where everyone hangs out. Poor Tim never sees it coming.
#5. - Others in Bette's and Tina's close circle of friends are Dana (Erin Daniels), the pro tennis player who keeps her gay life under wraps, at least initially
#6. - Shane (Katherine Moennig), the disarmingly charming one who prefers ever-changing bed partners and Alice (Leisha Hailey), a freelance journalist who compiles charts to prove that every gay woman is no more than six degrees of separation from every other one. There's also Kit (Pam Grier), Bette's half-sister, a singer struggling to achieve sobriety.
#7. - Not surprisingly, the setting for nearly all the scenes is West Hollywood, cinematically depicted here to look like practically any middle-class suburb. The series is particularly well-cast, including several fresh faces and strong acting skills. It's also filled with enough passionate scenes of lovemaking to attract male viewers who might not otherwise be inclined to sample drama from a female perspective. Some of these viewers may even find themselves regretting that these characters are playing for the other team.
#8. - Premiere director Rose Troche does a nice high-wire balancing job, following the life and loves of these characters and never letting us forget the importance of both. If the premiere seems strangely lacking in references to the immediate families of these characters, be patient. Subsequent episodes will demonstrate the all-too-problematic existence of family members.

THE L-WORD  @  L'HISTOIRE DE LA SERIE TV GAY
article par Barry Garron (Jan. 15, 2004) - The Hollywood Reporter
The L Word - TV Series

PLANETOUT ENTERTAINMENT
An interview with Jennifer Beals
: Beautiful "L Word" star Jennifer Beals recently sat down with PlanetOut entertainment editor Jenny Stewart and show producer Ilene Chaiken to talk about the Bette-Tina breakup, celebrity crushes and, of course, the jail scene.
: Director Rose Troche apparently made a videotape of various onscreen love scenes for the cast to watch. Was this helpful ?
: Yes, she made a cassette for us of a series of both lesbian and heterosexual love scenes, and she thought some of those scenes worked and some of them didn't. She wanted us to see and judge for ourselves which ones worked and which didn't -- and why.
: So what were some of those movies ?
: Bound, which worked really well, Claire of the Moon and The Hunger. And when we watched them, the ones that worked, regardless of the director, were the ones where the actors weren't fearful. When somebody was fearful, you could see it right away. It takes you out of the story, and that's to be avoided at all costs.
