The idea behind the movie was the Sichels' awe at ever having survived being teenage girls in the big city.
All Over Me is about Claude (Alison Folland) a shy, overweight teen who works in a pizza parlor after school and is secretly in love with her best friend Ellen (Tara Subkoff). But Ellen is far ahead of Claude in development. She has an older boyfriend, and she harbors a bad case of destructive self-loathing that erupts frequently and with a fury. But All Over Me isn't just a teenage cautionary or coming-out tale. It's as much a story of New York and its unbearably long, hot summers as it is the downtown music scene or teenage dreams and struggles with adult issues. More than that, it's a well-made film that has its own rhythm, working slowly to give us insight into the girls' natures. It succeeds admirably in taking us back to that age when everything seemed possible despite the dangers of the city closing in. Growing up has never felt as close to home or as scarily realistic.

Story: This is a slow-moving but often insightful portrait of a woman artist Anne (Albane Guilhe). The film opens with the funeral of her father in Israel. Soon thereafter Guilhe leaves her home in Switzerland to go to Montreal, where her father lived for a long time. There she meets an old friend of her father's, Ozdogru, who finds a studio in which she can work. She also renews a friendship with Alix (Louise Marleau), a child psychologist who insists that Guilhe move out of her hotel and into her spacious apartment, despite the objections of Marleau's boyfriend. Guilhe becomes obsessed with her work, turning the huge, crumbling studio into a massive work of art, while her personal life becomes more confused. This is not a fully realized lesbian love story at all, though both women discard their boyfriends and acknowledge their need for each other. And presumably they end up together, following Anne's coming to terms with the loss of her father. The pace is often frustrating -- one wants the women to be together -- but their reluctance and doubts are somehow realistic, especially considering the disparity in their professions and ages, and their former sexual preference.

A young scientist, Duran-Duran, is threatening the ancient universal peace and Barbarella is the chosen one to find him and save the world. During her mission, Barbarella never finds herself in a situation where it isn't possible to lose at least part of her already minimal dressing.
Synopsis: Based on a comic strip character, the story involves a beautiful space age heroine who vanquishes robots and monsters on the planet Lythion.

Sexy Lesbian Tyrant Queen Review
The True Meaning of Barbarella

Barbarella is an elegant Soft-Porn Sci-Fi Flick which consists of 4 sex scenes (dependant upon your definition of sex) interspersed with dressing, undressing, and tearing off clothes. The alleged plot has only one True Hero, Angel Pygar, who is otherwise a non-participant. For plot, there are so-called heroes, apparently named after sex toys, revolting against against a Lesbian Tyrant Queen. They mercifully perish. Pompous Vilain Duran-Duran is so stuffy & pompous as to make him harmless, even if he were to suceed, and despite his worst intententions. Director Vadim, then Fonda's Husband is flagrantly showing her so as to say "This is What I keep in MY BED!.
However, despite being a mindles Sexploitive T&A flick, This movie has REDEEMING QUALITIES if viewed on a deeper level, that is, what Fonda & Vadim say through Barbarella about the Women's Liberation Movement throught the four episodes of sex:
Sex Scene #1 - Barbarella hitches a ride to town with the local Male Baby Sitter at the cost of a Hot Sweaty Afternoon of Passion. The Iceboat goes Round & Round to the tune of "What's New Pussycat". No vows of Celebacy are being kept here! Loverboy is unsophisticated (doesn't know what the Sex Pill is for), crude, but charming. Mutual Sexploitation nets Barbarella new clothes and a ride to town. Barbarella lustfully rises/sinks to the task at hand. Some would use the nasty word "Prostitution" to describe what happened. Of course, these Ladies of the night are always criticized for betraying the NOW cause. Worse/Better is to come!
Sex Scene #2 - Barbarella cheers Pygar the Angel so he can fly again. In addition to the issues of Sex Scene #1, we find that Pygar is of a different SPECIES, the last of his kind. Some would use the ugly word "Beastiality" to describe this. I am going to be generous and treat Barbarella as Female Sexual Predator who uses Sexploitation to take advantage of a man of different RACE in a Moment of Weakness. Isn't the Women's Movement against Sexploitation of anybody?
Sex Scene #3 - The Sex Pill. An attempt to be kinky that mercifully fails. Instead, it is silly. It would be more palatable, however, to the Women's Movement to use the Great Lesbian Tyrant instead of that Stooge of a "Good Guy" Revolutionary.
Sex Scene #4 - Death by Orgasm. Duran-Duran puts Barbarella into the Orgasmatron, the Ultimate Sex Toy, to drive her beyond her tolerance level of Pleasure & Shame, and to remove her clothes. Barbarella's Pleasure Tolerance is off-scale, and her sense of shame is non-existant. When the "Killer Orgasm" occurs, the machie overheats & shorts. Allegorically, does this mean that Fonda & Vadim enjoys betraying the Women's Movement so much and with so little Shame that they WANT Women's Lib to Short-Out? What was Vadim thinking here? Any SELF-RESPECTING LIBERATED WIFE would have BOBBITIZED him for that!
The Finale, Angel Pygar rescuing TWO LOVELY LUMPS of Femininity, flying off into the Sunset with his GIRLS (Two Girls!) is better than what any Male Chauvinist Pig Dare Dream! OINK! OINK!
In view of the Fonda track record, and after this intensive reproductive activity of Barbarella, a Pregnancy is practically eminent. The movie ends before this is known; however , it brings up the issue of how Barbarella would deal with it. In light of Fonda's exercise Video, I expect a betrayal of the Pro-Choice Movement by opting for LaMaze over Abortion.
Viewed on a deeper level of the Fonda-Vadim view of Women's Lib, this Shameless T & A Flick gains stature as the Ultimate Betrayal of Women's Liberation, raising it to the level of One of the Greatest Films of All Time!

Mais après un atterrissage forcé sur Lytheon, elle est capturée par deux gamines jumelles, Stomoxys et Glossina, qui la livrent aux robots-poupées. Délivrée par Mark Hand, elle se rend sur la planète Sogo, où se trouverait le savant. Accidentée, elle se perd dans le labyrinthe où, après avoir rencontré Pygar, l'ornithanthrope aveugle et le professeur Ping, elle est capturée par les gardes de la Reine Noir.

Le film cultissime des 60s kitch incontournable !

Cette perle des festivals déjantés, ce pan de l'histoire du cinéma (certainement !), situé à la frontière du cinéma bis, de la série z, de la science fiction, de la comédie (voulue ou non), est un chef d'oeuvre qu'il faut avoir vu, et qui est à la portée de tout public.
L'histoire se situe dans le futur (tel qu'on l'imaginait dans les années soixante) où Barbarella (Jane Fonda) la pilote la plus sexy, la plus rapide de l'espace doit, évidemment sauver la paix universelle en évitant qu'une arme nouvelle tombe dans les mains des derniers barbares de l'espace.
S'en suit une histoire surréaliste, dans une esthétique kitchissime, que l'on ne peut même pas imaginer...
Vraiment, j'ai passe un bon moment , en voyant ce film, c'est à mourir de rire!
Et puis l'on retrouve dans ce films des effets, des idées reprises ensuite dans d'autres classiques. On apprécie mieux toutes les references du film CQ, qui est en fait un hommage au cinéma de cette époque.
Donc une dernière fois, ce film est à voir absolument, c'est le meilleur moyen de s'ouvrir au genre du cinémabis, et je pense qu'il est accessible a toute personne un minimum curieuse.

Histoire: Maggie a abandonné ses études et travaille désormais dans une librairie érotique. La nuit, elle se produit dans un dancing pour femmes. Un jour, elle rencontre Kim, c'est le coup de foudre. Les deux femmes fileraient le parfait amour si la mère de Maggy n'avait décidé de quitter son mari et de squatter chez sa fille avec son fils Paul. Alors la romance flirte avec la comédie sans bien sûr occulter le sexe, parce que c'est quand même meilleur que le chocolat.
Le film: Better than Chocolate (1998), une comédie romantique mettant en vedette un couple lesbien, remporte de nombreux prix lors de festivals internationaux du film gai et touche même un large public chez les hétérosexuels.

The gay cowboy romance "Brokeback Mountain" led the Golden Globes on Monday with four prizes, including best dramatic film and the directing honor for Ang Lee.
It was a triumphant night for films dealing with homosexuality and transsexuality. Along with the victories for "Brokeback Mountain," acting honors went to Felicity Huffman in a gender-bending role as a man preparing for sex-change surgery in "Transamerica" and Philip Seymour Hoffman as gay author Truman Capote in "Capote."

The Story
Based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx and adapted for the screen by the team of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana.
The Movie
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is the tragic and moving story of two cowboys who unexpectedly fall in love while working together one summer in 1963.
When the film begins, rodeo cowboy Jack Twist (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) and ranch-hand Ennis Del Mar (played by Heath Ledger) are strangers meeting for the first time.
As the more outgoing one, it is Jack who must initiate a friendship with Ennis, a man so tight-lipped and self-consciously macho he refuses all facial expression.
From this strained beginning, Jack and Ennis gradually begin to bond on cold lonely nights over a fire in the mountains of Signal in Wyoming USA.
One particularly chilly evening, Jack invites Ennis into his tent, where a sudden awkward embrace sends their relationship in a new direction.
Though each man stubbornly defends his heterosexuality, the spark between them cannot help but grow, with that initial summer on Brokeback Mountain becoming their reference point for happiness during the rest of their lives.
Spanning 20 years, the film moves at an impressively slow pace that really captures the detailed and unhurried style of Proulx's story.
Seeing each other a few times a year at best, Ennis and Jack spend the rest of their time halfheartedly living up to society's expectations by marrying and having kids.
When the lovers do meet, there is a sense of love so palpable and frustrating it often manifests itself in physical violence.

Story: A Comedy Of Sexual Disorientation. A promising comedy that goes awry all too early, But I'm a Cheerleader concerns a misunderstood high school kid (Natasha Lyonne) whose parents send her to a harsh, homosexual-rehabilitation camp despite a lack of evidence that she's gay. Ruled with an iron fist by a fascist counselor (Cathy Moriarty), the clinic only drives Lyonne's character toward an attraction to a rebellious tomboy (Clea DuVall), though screenwriter Brian Wayne Peterson and director Jamie Babbit are curiously intent on keeping the two apart and depriving the audience of other comic possibilities. Meanwhile, hoary clichés abound: prancing boys, butch gays, lipstick lesbians. Despite a fine cast full of young talent, and cameo appearances by Julie Delpy and RuPaul Charles, this attempt to skewer a present-day trend in "curing" homosexuals of their sexual preferences is flattened by stereotypes and unimaginative thinking.
Review: Although this film is a satire on the "ex gay" movement, there are some scenes that are so accurate and true regarding love, attraction and disappontment, that the viewer ends up nodding in agreement. Do yourself a favor and watch this film. It's hilarious!

Histoire: Megan Bloomfield (Natasha Lyonne) a tout pour elle! Elle est populaire, belle, fait partie d'une agence de mannequins, sort avec le capitaine de l'équipe de football et c'est une meneuse de claques! Tout le monde l'envie, elle est tellement adorable! Mais ce conte de fée vient de prendre fin abruptement. Alors qu'elle se préparait à aller encourager son équipe pour le championnat, elle frappa un mur, ou plutôt un groupe d'intervention envoyé par sa famille. Ce groupe aurait pour but de prouver qu'elle est une lesbienne! Megan, choquée et outrée, n'en revient pas de ce geste posé par sa propre famille! Mais elle doit se rendre à l'évidence : elle est végétarienne et n'aime pas embrasser son petit ami, mais elle aime tellement étreindre ses amies! Au lieu de participer au championnat, Megan se rend au centre True Directions, où elle suit une thérapie qui la remettra sur la bonne voie.
Megan se porte toujours volontaire lors des activités de réhabilitation et travaille fort pour redevenir normal. Toutefois, sa rencontre avec Graham Eaton (Clea DuVall), une fille issue d'une famille de riches qui n'a pas du tout l'intention de changer d'orientation sexuelle mais qui doit rester là si elle veut continuer à recevoir l'argent de son père, remet en question ses valeurs. Après tout, à quoi bon être parfaite pour les autres si on perd son identité ?
Revue: Une jeune pom-pom girl est envoyée dans un centre de rééducation car ses parents pensent qu'elle est atteinte d'un terrible mal: elle serait lesbienne. En effet, elle a des posters de filles dans sa chambre, n'aime pas être embrassée par son boyfriend. Le film montre le ridicule de ces préjugés et l'importance de la liberté de choix, et la liberté d'être tout simplement. On notera la présence de Clea Duvall, RuPaul et la musique plutôt agréable dont une reprise de Gainsbourg par April March.

A troublemaking student at a girl's school accuses two teachers of being lesbians.
Wyler's compelling though stagey second treatment of Lillian Hellman's play (1936's These Three was the first) tells of the devastating effects of gossip and scandalous rumors about two women. Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine are teachers at an all-girls' boarding school. When a vindictive little girl accuses the two of having an affair, their lives (and their careers) are ruined after a self-righteous community believes the unsubstantiated allegations (shades of McCarthyism!). However, the rumor also forces MacLaine to come to terms with her closeted lesbian feelings. Attempting to right the wrong of his original film which was not allowed to discuss the theme of lesbianism, Wyler rather flimsily addresses it here. The film is marred by the dreadfully anti-lesbian ending - a must in this code-era film. The performances by Hepburn and MacLaine are competent, and James Garner and Miriam Hopkins also star.

• Je fais partie de la génération qui découvre ce film grâce au DVD et quel bonheur !
• Un bon moment d'émotions avant d'arriver au dénouement du scénario subtilement emmené.
• Les héroïnes sont attachantes et savent "séduire" par leur interprétation.
• Je dois avouer avoir prolongé le plaisir par le visionnage du making-off ainsi que de la version commentée par la réalisatrice pour mieux développer certaines parties.

The squad consists of feisty team-leader Max (Meagan Good), goodie-goodie Janet (Jill Ritchie), apathetic chain-smoker Dominique (Devon Aoki), and sweet-natured Amy (Sara Foster) -- who wonders if being a spy is truly her destiny.
Decked out in ultra-mini plaid skirts, the D.E.B.S. (stands for Discipline, Energy, Beauty, and Strength) prepare for their most important mission yet -- capturing the deadly criminal mastermind Lucy Diamond (Jordana Brewster).
As it turns out, Lucy is little more than a helpless romantic, and when a crush develops between Lucy and Amy, the plot takes yet another twist.
Over-the-top and self-referential, D.E.B.S. pokes fun at the CHARLIE'S ANGELS formula in a good-natured way, ultimately succeeding by not taking itself too seriously.

Story: When college professor Vivian Bell (Helen Shaver) arrives in Reno in 1959 to get a quickie divorce, the last thing on her mind is romance. A prim intellectual, crippled by a sterile marriage ("We're a professional couple") and hiding behind her education, she moves into a ranch belonging to Frances Parker (Audra Lindley) and tries to keep to herself. But Parker's beautiful, sassy tomboy of a stepdaughter proves to be quite a distraction, and a love affair slowly blossoms. Cay (Patricia Charbonneau) refuses to be bound by convention or by expectations of how a nice girl should behave, and her devil-may-care attitude both attracts and terrifies the nervous professor.
Shaver is terrific as Vivian, and the slow thawing of her character is beautifully paced -- you can feel the tension break when she finally lets down her guard. Another strong performance comes from Audra Lindley as Frances. She's a tough old bird with a drinking problem, but Lindley keeps the character from descending into stereotype, and she gives full rein to the tragic side of this lonely woman, especially as she struggles with her reaction to the developing relationship between Cay and Vivian.
There are scenes in Desert Hearts that would be painfully clichéd if they appeared in a heterosexual romance, and even here they only just escape that fate -- relying a little too much on significant glances and lines that just don't sound like real conversation. Nevertheless, first-time director Deitch breathes new life into a standard straight-arrow-meets-free-spirit plot, and steadfastly refuses to turn this love story into an "issues movie." Add to that a strong feel for the period and a soundtrack filled with the likes of Patsy Cline and Gene Vincent, and the result is a warm, well-acted film that packs a real emotional punch.

Story: The plot of 'Eros' begins a little after Catherine Frot has left husband Francois Berleand and moved new lover Isabelle Carre into the marital home, relegating hubby to the garage. By way of revenge Berleand enlists the aid of Bruno (Melvil Poupaud), who has an inside track at the local bondage parlour where the clientele are wont to don the odd gas mask and worse. It may of course be a barrel of laughs to see people walking around in gas masks and little else. I wouldn't know, maybe I should get out more. Poupaud convinces Carre he's dead and later shows up at the home of her strait-laced parents - you're ahead of me, aren't you, oh well, those are the breaks - and later, rather than sooner, alas, all is resolved.
Something of a curio in several respects, not least why a quartet of distinguished actors consented to appear in such a dubious enterprise. In my case I was drawn by the marquee names; Isabelle Carre, so brilliant in 'Se souvenir des belles choses' and 'Les Sentiments', Catherine Frot, with a whole catalogue of fine performances behind her not least the birthday girl in 'Un Aire de famille', Francois Berleand, fresh from his triumph in 'Les Choristes' - and Julie Depardieu, sister to Guillaume, daughter to Gerard. Veteran writer-director Daniele Dubroux has dabbled in the slightly off-color on previous occasions; as an actress she played in 'L'Ecole de la chair' (The School of Flesh) opposite Isabelle Huppert, then just beginning her own exploration of sleaze, and as a triple-threat she wrote, directed and played in 'Le Journal du séducteur' (Diary of a Seducer).

Story: This cracking eye-opening comedy reunites a group of women who went to college together and who were in a political street theatre group in the late 70's. When a long-standing couple among them has a baby, they get together to celebrate, and end up heading off to the old house, for old times sake.
Luce, a thirty-something Sporty Spice, needs to bury a ghost. Gina needs to learn how to fall in love during, rather that after her sexual encounters. Josie was an alcoholic now she's just trying to deal with being spurned by Maria, who in turn is having to deal with losing her children in a custody battle with the man she chose over Josie. Baby Daniel's two mums seem the perfect couple, but even they have issues to resolve. Sarah, the token straight, works for Planned Parenthood, but can't get pregnant. Candy's a 23 year old Republican who has to go !
So, the seven friends set off on a lakeside holiday, with baby. The smart and sassy ensemble exhange quick-witted repartee which reveals, with some irony, humour, many lesbian clichés, and touches of nostalgia for the 70's, just how their lives, loves and politics have changed. Sentimental reminiscences include a guitar sing-song (with interesting use of a vibrator), a game of softball and scenes of flirting, fertility rituals and sex on a diving raft !
A romantic lesbian comedy, Everything Relative enjoyed theatrical success as the closing night film at the 1996 London Lesbian and Gay film festival.

So often we have to accept less than good offerings from the media. With this film you get it all. I have watched it many times. Every time there is something new. The characters are super. You won't like them all in the first viewing - thats why you'll watch it again! There is a sexy undertone throughout the movie that climaxes wonderfully towards the end. It says on the box - 'A return to the feel-good factor of Claire of the moon - but with 4 times the climatic ending!' Well, take it from someone who knows; It does exactly what it says on the tin !!!

For all of the lesbian genre films there are (or actually aren't) out there, it is refreshing to watch a movie that has a complete collection of talent. While the plot was loosely written, the characters (and the portrayals of the characters) and their interaction as a syudy of lesbian lives - was interesting, enjoyable and worth sharing. The unrated version... all I can say is Thank you. Tasteful, erotic and steamy tension! Was it a little predictable - only because we we wanted it to work out that way - on screen and in our lives. Don't deny it! But what a wonderful job, compared to any other attempt. All I can say to the entire cast - WELL DONE! Worth watching - worth owning! And if you are an Andrea Weber fan - there is plenty to study of our beautiful gymnist! CONGRATULATIONS ON THE SUCCESS! Could I listen to Gabriella sing all day? Just buy it; you'll see! IF I am wrong - auction it... it WILL get snatched up right away! What do you have to lose? --.

I rate these folks fairly highly because I understand British idiom and humo(u)r. If you are an American, trust that your mileage may vary on how well this tickles your funny bone. It is a good bit more sedate than "Monty Python", that's for sure.
No doubt about it - Saunders and French are chameleons. I suspect a big award goes to the wardrobe and makeup crew who work with them, but we have a somewhat convincing 250 pound Jane Russell (Dawn French) doing schtick with a middle-aged Marilyn Monroe (Jennifer Saunders).
The DVD has sketches, not one running story. In this one, they lampoon opera divas, publishers of utterly worthless "stocking stuffer" books (I am resisting spoiling it and will not post the title of the dreadful book,but it is funny.), boring chat shows (one has the two women chatting earnestly about what the Queen had for "elevenses"), two rustic housewifes bragging about fleecing the yuppies ("She offered me 100 quid for the loo!"), and (my favorite) a couple of dour and indestructible old women in Wellies with two large dogs under the table.
The sketches I did not like were the "Gone With The Wind Sketch" ( Too many "Fiddle-dee-dees" for my taste) and the visit to the friend in jail sketch (I got bored, so sue me.).
Oh, yeah, this DVD also has the sketch that spawned the entire "Absolutely Fabulous".

Review: This whimsical French farce with a lesbian twist nicely blends all the outrageousness of its genre with some finely drawn subtleties to create a highly amusing divertimento that is peppered throughout with touching moments. Victoria Abril is Loli, the dutiful (and evidently happily housebound) Spanish wife of a boorish French real estate broker (Alain Chabat) who prides himself on his profusion of extramarital affairs. Marijo (Josiane Balasko), a bohemian, cigar-smoking dyke from Paris, lands on their doorstep in the South of France with a broken-down VW minivan and, after a bit of small talk, makes a pass at Loli. Starved for the attentions of her philandering husband, Loli responds warmly to these advances, much to his outrage. But when his indiscretions come to light the whole situation really blows up and Loli retaliates in a most unusual way. Filled with the standard burlesque guffaws, French Twist is most impressive for its even-handed treatment of its characters. Balasko is quite fetching as a boyishly macho lesbian, Abril's range of emotion is sensational and her radiance is enough to capture the heart of any sexual persuasion. Even Chabat is given a fair shake as he struggles to reconcile his sexual urges with his emotional desires. (French with English subtitles)

Histoire: Tandis que son épouse dévouée Loli (Victoria Abril), s'occupe de la progéniture et de la maison, Laurent (Alain Chabat), dragueur impénitent, ne rate jamais une occasion de la tromper avec la première venue. Quelle ne va pas être sa surprise, lors de l'intrusion chez eux de la très masculine Marijo (Josiane Balasko), de découvrir que les penchants de sa femme ne tendent pas uniquement vers le sexe opposé. Josiane Balasko ne recule devant rien (normal pour une ancienne du Splendid !). A partir d'un sujet sensible, voire tabou, elle a composé cette comédie hilarante dont la tendresse n'est pas exclue, n'hésitant pas à placer ses personnages (y compris le sien) dans des situations incongrues, à la limite parfois d'une certaine vulgarité. Forcer ainsi le trait et pousser le film vers la caricature est le seul reproche que l'on pourrait faire à Josiane Balasko qui peut par contre s'enorgueillir de la haute tenue de ses camarades de jeu. Autour d'elle, Victoria Abril, Ticky Holgado et Alain Chabat composent leur personnage avec une précision chirurgicale. L'aisance avec laquelle ce dernier, pourtant doté d'un rôle ingrat et viscéralement antipathique, tire son épingle du jeu, prouvera aux ultimes sceptiques qu'il a l'étoffe d'un vrai comédien, ce qu'il ne manquera pas de confirmer par la suite.

Max ne tombera amoureuse d'Ely, que lorsque celle-ci sera devenue une vraie lesbienne.

Shunned, Clara (Glascott) goes on to have a lesbian affair with a local reporter (Flora Montgomery), who turns out to be more than a little possessive. In an effort to get away from the needy reporter, Clara manages to attract the woman who had stolen the affections of her professor in the first place. Review: One of the best lesbian films of the 1990s, High Art is an emotional, thought-provoking drama set in New York's downtown lofts which centers around a young (hitherto straight) woman's sexual interest in a slightly older woman. Syd (Michell) is a vanilla-flavored, blonde-haired woman working as an intern at a high-powered photo magazine. But she's far from happy just quietly climbing the corporate ladder by day and living with her sweet boyfriend at night. For she (much like a pretty fox stalking a chicken coop) finds her ticket to fame and lesbianism in the person of Lucy Berliner (Sheedy), a burned-out coupon-clipping ex-photographer living a decadent, druggy life with Greta (Clarkson), a German actress wafting through life on a cloud of drugs, cigarette smoke and memories of her fast-paced life as a Fassbinder actress. Syd's repressed lesbian urges, are kicked into overdrive as she becomes entranced with the cool, thin Lucy. Their relationship sparks Lucy's creative juices and offers a career opportunity for Syd. The only losers are their ex's. A film that deserves to be seen twice although (or because) director Cholodenko sends out mixed signals on what love is and can be. Is love the close bond between two people, insular from outside influences (Lucy and Greta), or is driven by economic (capitalistic) forces (Lucy and Syd)? For this writer, the relationship of a burned-out Lucy with her nearly somnolent girlfriend Greta is far more romantic and in, an odd way, nurturing, than the career-oriented affair between Lucy and Syd, a relationship built on dishonesty (advance Syd's career by signing her for the mag), deceit (get rid of the other woman), manipulation (get Lucy to stop drugs and reenter mainstream life, Lucy gets a second chance with a freshly-scrubbed young lass), and callousness (Syd's use of her trying-to-be understanding boyfriend and Lucy's painful indifference to Greta's insouciant approach to their love). A film which offers intriguing ideas on the nature of love.

Being a vampire never looked more sexy, but there's a price: Bowie starts to age so fast he wrinkles up in the waiting room of a doctor's (Susan Sarandon) office.
The agelessly elegant Deneuve, evoking Delphine Seyrig's Countess Bathory from Daughters of Darkness, is perfectly cast as a millenniums-old bloodsucker who seeks a new mate in Sarandon and seduces her in a sunlight-bathed afternoon of smooth, silky sex.
Tony Scott's (Ridley's brother) directorial debut, adapted from the Whitley Strieber novel, revises the vampire myth with Egyptian inflections and removes all references to garlic and crosses and wooden stakes -- these bloodsuckers can even walk around in the daylight -- but the ties between blood and sex are as strong as ever.
Scott's background as an award-winning commercial director is evident in every richly textured frame and his densely interwoven editing, but the moody atmosphere comes at the expense of dramatic urgency. At times the film is so languid it becomes mired in its hazy, impeccably designed visual style.
In its own way, The Hunger is the perfect vampire film for the '80s, all poise and attitude and surface beauty. Sarandon talks candidly about the film in the documentary The Celluloid Closet.

Most readers know Strieber for his bestselling books about his alleged contacts with aliens (Communion, etc.). Yet before he met the saucerians, Strieber wrote immensely popular horror novels, some of them filmed (as was Communion which, nonfiction or not, is a horror classic). The most imaginative was The Hunger (1980), which posited an ancient race of vampires that created humanity and has directed our species' history. In his first novel in seven years, Strieber returns to the opulent, ferocious world of Miriam Blaylock (Catherine Deneuve), the beautiful, powerful and rapacious vampire who dominated The Hunger (and was played by Catherine Deneuve in the film version). It's time again for the vampires' centennial conclaves, and Miriam is in Thailand, hoping to find a mate at the Asian gathering. Instead she encounters a possibly mortal enemy, Paul Ward, a CIA operative heading up a hush-hush team dedicated to wiping out the vampires. The novel's first two-thirds offers a tour de force of mythmaking (as Strieber redefines the world through vampiric eyes) and emotionally intense action (as Ward's team stalks Miriam and her ilk). The last third, set in Manhattan, is less successful, as Miriam, intent on destroying Paul, lures and seduces him and then falls in love, as does he with her. This turn doesn't quite convince, and the contrived ending shrieks sequel. There's much here to admire, not least Strieber's expert modulation of tone and dialogue as POV shifts from Miriam (fluid, refined) to Paul (muscular, slangy). While not as original as its parent, this bloody, lush and gripping novel trumpets a welcome return to fiction by Strieber and could win award nominations. Forecast: All signs point up the sale of film rights to Columbia Tri-Star, a seven-city author tour and 20-city national radio satellite tour, and the republication of The Hunger in June (ISBN 0-7434-3102-2) with a teaser chapter from The Last Vampire. Expect this one to bite into bestseller lists.

Histoire du roman: Thriller fantastique
L'éternelle jeunesse est une chose merveilleuse pour les rares personnes à en jouir, mais Myriam Blaylock (Catherine Deneuve) voit plutôt cela comme une malédiction, une existence à jamais marquée par la mort et le chagrin. Même si elle peut accorder à ses amants (ceux dont elle ne boit pas le sang) une existence incomparablement longue, elle sait qu'en fin de compte tous ceux qu'elle aime finissent par dépérir et mourir.
Maintenant elle est hantée par les signes de la disparition prochaine de son mari John Blaylock (David Bowie) adoré, à peine âgé de quelques siècles. Elle contacte le docteur Sarah Roberts (Susan Sarandon), une spécialiste du vieillissement qui a peut-être trouvé dans le sang une substance qui serait la clef de l'immortalité. Mais celle-ci ne risque-t-elle pas de découvrir que Myriam est un vampire ?

18 year old Ainu (Lily Ho) is kidnapped and sold to a brothel. Her good looks and wild personality make her very popular with the lustful clients, but also draws the lesbian attentions of brothel madam Betty Tei Pei. Betty teaches Ainu the ways of lust and the ways of kung fu, and Ainu becomes more and more similar to her captor. But rage at her treatment is still burning inside her.
INTIMATE CONFESSIONS ("Ainu" is the Chinese title) is another wu xia film from ace director Chor Yuen, but this time the exploitation angle often present in his films is brought right into centre stage. Chor Yuen seems to have been fascinated by lesbians, but this is the only film of his that I've seen where he gives them the starring roles. Both Lily Ho and Betty Tei Pei give sterling performances as the beautiful but vicious martial arts hookers, and they're joined by a cast of Shaws starlets in the nude to create a pre-Cat III film that balances action, intrigue and eroticism surprisingly well. The film is the acknowledged inspiration for Clarence Fok's NAKED KILLER, the ultimate Cat III classic.
As with all Chor Yuen's films, AINU is filmed entirely on Shaw Brothers sound stages, and features his trademark opulent art direction and cinematography. The plot is less labyrinthine than in many of his wu xia works, probably because Gu Long was in no way involved. In fact, the plot is probably too straight forward - the film runs less than 90 minutes, and doesn't develop its characters or situations as much as I would have liked. It still has a certain amount of depth and sophistication that is exceptionally unusual in a film centred around sex.
Yueh Hua has a small role as a hapless police officer, but it's undoubtedly the women that are the stars of the film. Even in the action scenes, which are not the main focus but are a pleasant bonus, it's Lily Ho and especially Betty Tei Pei that dominate. Given that neither of the ladies are martial artists they do a good job in the fights, with stunt doubles being noticable but not distracting. Ultimately its the characters and the situations that make the film interesting, and the art direction, cinematography and naked flesh that make it compelling. I enjoyed the film on a number of levels, and even my girlfriend was positively disposed towards it. I just wish it had been about 30 minutes longer, and spent a bit more time developing its story.
Definitely recommended.

Lorsqu'elle se rend compte qu'il n'y a aucun moyen de fuir, Ai Nu prend son mal en patience et se soumet à sa patronne, ainsi qu'aux notables libidineux qui fréquentent le Printemps éternel. Elle comprend très vite que l'amour, bien mieux que la haine, servira sa vengeance.

Falling in love with a woman, for the first time in mid-life, as many of us have experienced, is an astonishing occurrence. LATE BLOOMERS shows this to be true by including large doses of engaging tenderness and realistic scenes of stark honesty. In this film there are no women wearing slinky dresses, seducing one another in a pseudo-romantic Hollywood setting. Instead, Late Bloomers portrays finding love, and finding it just around the corner, all as it often happens. Quite unexpectedly, the lovers discover one another, and find the closeness and romance previously missing from their past involvements. One of the women is married, so if you first fell in love with a woman when married with children; you will appreciate the character's struggles and those of her family. However, alls well that ends well and this is without a doubt what this film portrays. LATE BLOOMERS is believable, with fine acting and a great story line. The women who play the roles of the two lovers are perfect, uninhibited in their lovemaking; funny, tender, and even sometimes fearful; yet always finding a way to stay the course together. LATE BLOOMERS creates an entirely possible story and presents it by using, not only some drama, but also a great deal of humor. Buy this film. You will absolutely adore it.

Story: Stéphane Audran has never looked more elegantly decadent than in this twisted bisexual drama of sexual domination, obsession, despair and revenge, filmed in Chabrol's trademark cool, detached style. Audran is Frederique, a glamorous woman of lesbian leaning who, on a trip to Paris, meets then seduces a poor, enigmatic young woman named Why. She soon whisks her new love off to her home in St. Tropez to continue their affair, but the balance is changed when a man (Jean-Louis Trintignant) enters the picture and, after a brief attraction to Why, takes up permanently with Frederique. The centerpiece of this explosive love triangle is Audran's wanton sexual appeal, a power that eventually leads to bitter consequences.
Frédérique is a rich and beautiful woman who picks up a female street artist called "Why". It is December and they go to her villa in Saint Tropez, which is inhabited by a couple of odd gay men. Both women fall for the local architect Paul Thomas. However Why says that she is not interested in him, so Frédérique invites him to move into the villa.
